Mark Polk At the end of your camping season you drain the water system, winterize the RV and put it in storage for the winter. There is still moisture in the water system. Just imagine what can grow in that moist tank and in the water lines while it sits for three or four months. This is the water tank that you drink from and the water you use to wash dishes and take showers with. We cannot assume that it will stay safe and fresh like the water system in our home. Contaminated water is extremely dangerous. We hook up to city water, well water, and eventually contaminated water. Well that can be true anywhere. The water coming out of the faucet was cloudy and had small particles suspended in it. There are no guarantees that any water is completely safe for us to drink, but if we take certain precautions we can keep our RV water system safe to use.

We went for many years without a water filter on our RV. Once in a while I would attach an inexpensive, sediment filter to our water hose but it seemed like such a bother. After all, I reasoned, the campgrounds were either on treated city water systems or their well water was tested periodically. Besides, I always look at, smell and taste the campground’s water before I hook up to it. In over 35 years we’ve run across only three campgrounds whose water failed my look, smell and taste test.

But Joe’s eyesight and sense of smell isn’t what it used to be. And no one has ever accused him of having good taste except for marrying me, of course. So when we took delivery of our new RV we decided to filter all the water that went into it. We looked at an overwhelming variety of water filtration and treatment systems.

Plus it makes a whistling sound when the hot water is running. The sound seems to be coming from or near water heater. I have replaced the connector and pressure valve where you hook it to city water. It still has low pressure in the bathroom; especially the hot water has very low pressure. Any help would be appreciated! Remove the faucet strainer at the outlet of that bathroom faucet set.

It simply unscrews from the outlet. There may also be a flow restrictor component inside, depending on the brand of faucet used in your motorhome. A flow diverter may also be present; usually a white plastic piece with holes in it. It basically directs the output flow to a certain pattern. Be sure all the components in the tap outlet are clean and free from all obstructions.

Additionally, some faucet assemblies have removable stems for both the hot and cold faucet valves. In some cases, these can be removed for cleaning. Again, it depends on which brand the manufacturer originally installed.

Your RV, Motorhome or Camper Generator and How It Works

Camper Water Hookup Instructions Recreational vehicles are designed for “boondocking,” or camping without hookups. A fresh water tank, volt battery-operated appliances and holding tanks allow most RV travelers to disconnect from utilities for a few days. Hookups provide increased comfort, including the ability to use unlimited water and run items that draw a great deal of power such as televisions and air conditioners.

Most RV parks provide either partial hookups, which include electricity and water, or full hookups, which add sewer service. Some deluxe parks also include hookups for cable television and telephone lines. Electricity Requirements Some RVs, including pop-up campers and most travel trailers, use amp electric power.

A water pressure regulator is an inexpensive investment that can spare you a lot of problems in the future. At we carry a variety of water pressure regulators so you never need to worry about the intake pressure when you are filling up your fresh water tanks.
